“Houston is
the sex capital of the country…..” Steve
Jett Captain of the Houston Police
Department’s Vice Division.
Travel two blocks
in any direction in this city and you
will see a strip club, a “massage”
parlor, and or an “executive retreat,”
which is shorthand for bordello. Most,
if not all of the women in these
establishments were sexually abused as
children.
Some of them are
held against their will, and forced to
prostitute. They have been trafficked
in from all four corners of the globe.
They are Asian, Hispanic, Russian. They
are terrified victims, who speak little
or no English and have no access to
help. Some of these victims are
children. All are someone’s daughter,
sister, or wife.
Slavery is alive
and well globally as well as in this
country, in this city. We cannot afford
to look the other way.
The permissive
sexual attitude in this city allows
traffickers to move with impunity and to
hide behind the “legal,” sex industry so
their minions flourish like bacteria in
a petrie dish. The pimps and
traffickers understand that the demand
for trafficked individuals is created by
a society that relishes the degradation
of women and regards female sexuality as
a commodity for sale to the highest
bidder.
Five years ago two
teenage Ukranian girls burned to death
while locked inside a bordello in Tel
Aviv, Israel. They were trafficked into
Israel and promised a better life, an
opportunity to send money to their
families.
Voices for Justice
Network - Sex Industry Survivors is a
non-profit organization that seeks to
educate the public about the
interrelationship between childhood
sexual abuse, the “legal,” sex industry,
and human trafficking. We plan to open
safe houses for these victims. A place
where they can receive medical and
psychiatric care, job training, and can
slowly begin the process of
reintegrating back into society.
“ To save one life
is to save the world.” Please help us
build a unified society where all
citizens enjoy bodily integrity and a
chance to exercise autonomy over their
physical, mental, and moral faculties.
You can help us turn private sorrow into
public good and heal the world, one
victim at a time.
