SEX INDUSTRY SURVIVORS ANONYMOUS

MEETING FORMAT

Welcome to the  _________________ meeting of Sex Industry Survivors Anonymous (SISA).  The only requirement is a desire to leave the sex industry, or heal from related issues.  (Leader announce whether the meeting is open or closed—a definition follows.)

“This is a (closed/open) SISA meeting.”

Note:

Each SISA group may decide whether their meeting is “Open” or “Closed.” In a Closed SISA meeting, only those who are personally dealing with the sex industry in their own lives may attend. Open meetings are open to non-sex industry survivors, such as counselors and other individuals interested in helping sex industry survivors.

“To protect our anonymity, what you hear here, must stay here. We will now go around the room, introducing ourselves, and identifying as sex industry survivors.”

“I have asked_______ to read: “What is a Sex Industry Survivor?”

“Would someone like to read: “The 12 Steps.”

On the first day of the month that the meeting is held read: “The Traditions.”  (The group may also decide to read this weekly.)

Would someone volunteer to read: “Why Recovery?”

“There is free literature here. Please take what you like.  We also suggest you exchange phone numbers with each other and stay in touch in between meetings. Newcomers are asked to come to six meetings in a row before they make up their minds about whether this program will work for them or not.”

LEADER: Speak for up to ten minutes on what it was like: Before, during, and after. Try to focus on your solutions, as well as the problems. Share your experience, strength, and hope.

Meeting Suggestions for the Group Leader

  • Speaker meeting where a recovering member shares about their experience staying abstinent from the addiction to that first transaction.  Any time we exchange any form of sexual activity for an exchange of money, we consider that a “transaction.”  To remain abstinent in SISA, we cannot take the first transaction.
  • Topic discussion. You may get ideas from the literature. Examples include: 20 Questions, Patterns of Relapse, or Who is a Sex Industry Survivor?  (Refer to www.sexindustrysurvivors.com for more ideas!)

“There is no cross talk. Try to refrain from commenting on other group member’s sharing, especially when it comes to giving advice. Let’s get started.”

At ten minutes before the end of meeting: Collect the seventh tradition: There are no dues or fees, but we are self-supporting through our own contributions.

Do we have any SISA related announcements?  Can I have a secretary’s report?

There are service commitments available in this group. (Name different commitments such as coffee maker, publicity (getting the word out about the meeting to other survivors, group secretary, etc.)

At the end of the meeting, read:  Closing Affirmation the Sexual Bill of Rights.

“After a moment of silence for the still suffering sex industry survivor, both inside and out of these rooms, may I ask  _______ to lead us in the closing prayer of their choice?”  (Stand and join hands in a circle.)

Did you ever work in Nevada's legal brothels?
